One of the things that the French do well are gates. Here in Provence you can see all kinds. There are graceful ones that look like they lead to a chateau and little stubby ones that sometimes lead nowhere.
We put in an electric gates several years ago. You would think that with such a fancy gate, it would be painted and look lovely. But no, apparently the style in some neighborhoods is rusty gates. To my eye, mine needs attention.
The first one is mine and the last one is my favorite one in the area. The other ones are gates that caught my eye.
But today I am adding one more gate. My friend Pascale sent me the picture. Her Mom and Dad lived in this building. It is in Aix en Provence.

I love the gates here, too. My husband and I always stop to admire and comment on them when we are out sight seeing. We have a nice one, but I can’t show it until it gets painted!

Mine are completely rusty and I’v been told that rusty is charming. I think that when they are painted a very dark grey they look good. I’ve been paying attention to gates because we are going to need to close in a court yard. It won’t be happening soon, so I’ll have lots of time to keep looking. Thank you for your comments.

So what do you think it says about the French that they feel the need to gate everything?

Lets see, protection? Or maybe they are trying to keep the dogs inside the property.
