On our way out of the park, we stopped at the Mylodon Cave Natural Monument. 14,000 years ago, the giant sloth, the Mylodon lived in the area. The Macrauchenia, similar to a giant guanaco and also a dwarf horse, lived here too. The saber-toothed tiger, a Patagonian panther and the bear hunted them all.The view of the plains from the caveThis was one huge cave! The above bit of hair came from a real Mylodon.
About 10,000 years ago, all of the animals disappeared. The reason was probably climate change, but perhaps also volcanic eruptions and human hunters.
